Miko Branch is the co-founder and CEO of Miss Jessie’s LLC, the company behind the premium hair care product line, Miss Jessie’s, that exclusively caters to the diverse spectrum of all curly hair types. Miko founded the company with her sister, Titi, and they named it after their much beloved and fiercely independent “do-it-for-yourself,” and “tell-it-like-it-is” paternal grandmother – Jessie Mae Branch.
As the visionary behind the Miss Jessie’s brand, Miko revolutionized the hair care industry and became a leading pioneer of the natural hair movement by creating and marketing high performance and high quality hair care products. Miko quickly changed the conversation about hair and hair care by declaring that Miss Jessie’s products were not exclusively for a specific ethnic group but rather were for all types of textures and curls regardless of ethnicity. As a result, the Miss Jessie’s product line includes a variety of products for every type of texture and curl from wavy to coily.
Originally created in a Brooklyn Brownstone, the Miss Jessie’s brand grew from the underground curly cult favorite, available at only the hippest shops in Brooklyn, to the must-have curly sensation, now available at Target, Walmart, Walgreens, and CVS stores across the country. Due to Miko’s curl expertise and decades of training, Miss Jessie’s products received accolades and acclaim from beauty and lifestyle magazines including O, Teen Vogue, Redbook, Essence, and Latina, just to name a few.
The award winning Miss Jessie’s products, including Curly Pudding, Baby Buttercreme, Pillow Soft Curls, Leave In Condish, Multicultural Curls and Coily Custard, are consistently recognized as being among the best and most effective products in the market . Also included among the Miss Jessie’s fan base is Oscar award winning actress, Lupita N’yongo, who declared Miss Jessie’s Baby Buttercreme as one of her hair care essentials in recent issues of Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, and Lucky. Similarly, singer, song writer, and electric entertainer, Janelle Monae, sang praises for Miss Jessie’s Super Sweetback Treatment in US Weekly and Essence.
Miko is credited for transforming the hair care industry by creating this entirely new category of products specifically for natural and curly hair and for truly championing diversity in the hair care aisles of national retail chain stores. She has been recognized for her business acumen as well as her philanthropic contributions.
Most recently, Miko was featured on the cover Women’s Wear Daily, Beauty Inc. as an established beauty brand trailblazer. Ebony has also listed Miko among its Power 100 Innovators and Influencers. In addition, Miko has been the honored recipient of New York University’s “Women On The Move Award” and the Delta Sigma Theta “Economic Development Award.”
Although grateful to receive such recognition, Miko prefers to give, particularly to organizations that encourage the advancement and education of minority youth. Miko has partnered with the New York Urban League and the United Negro College Fund in support of their scholarship programs, and continues to contribute to many other worthwhile organizations and charities.
